Aftercare

A note from Altered Skin

The aftercare of your tattoo will greatly determine the way your tattoo will look once it is fully healed! Here are some tips to remember when taking care of your tattoo.

Removing the bandage

Remove the bandage within 1-3 hours after your tattoo. Once the bandage is removed, GENTLY wash the tattoo with your hand (not a rag or loofah) with antibacterial soap. I suggest either Dial or Softsoap. Let your tattoo air dry.

Applying ointment

After you have gently cleaned the area, apply a thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor, A&D Ointment, Hustle Butter, ect) If it appears shiny, you have added too much and can dap off excess with a paper towel.

Tattoos take about 4 weeks to fully heal!

For best results you should wash your tattoo 2 to 3 times a day and apply a thin layer ointment as needed to keep the tattoo from getting dry. Do not add A&D for more than 48 hrs.

DO NOT PICK SCABS!

I know its hard but do not pick scabs or scratch tattoo while healing! This will cause bleeding and will result in the ink pulling out of the skin. Wear loose clothing over tattooed area to avoid pulling off scabs. Remember scabs are like sponges, do not over moisturize or it will pull ink out!

Tips for the best results!

  • Do not swim or submerge new tattoo in any water for at least 2 weeks.
  • Do not expose new tattoo to direct sunlight (do not put sunscreen on a tattoo that is not fully healed)
  • After tattoos are healed use SPF to protect tattoos when exposed to sun for long periods of time. This will keep your tattoos looking bright and beautiful!
  • If you have any questions or concerns DONT WAIT, Contact your artist right away! Trust your tattoo artist, not your friends!
